EMERGENCY crews were called out near Ledbury early this morning when a lorry full of live chickens went on fire.
Fortunately all the birds escaped without injury after the driver managed to extinguish the flames, which were in the engine, before two fire crews from Ledbury arrived near the Trumpet crossroads on the A417 at around 5.20am.
Police were then called to deal with a large amount of oil and diesel that leaked onto the road before a separate vehicle was sent to tow the trailer full of hens to its destination.
