Event will give help to heroes

HEREFORDSHIRE police officers and firefighters will play a major part in a day to raise money for servicemen injured in action.

Parachute display teams, helicopters and demonstrations by bomb display experts are planned for the event on Sunday, October 5.

County dog handlers PCs Mike Davey, Steve Heathcote and Dave Campbell will be present at the event, which is hoped will raise £50,000 for the Help for Heroes charity.

PC Davey, event co-ordinator, said: “A lot of us are ex-forces and we have seen what these lads are coming back to.

“Some of them are extremely badly injured. One minute they are fully operational service men and the next they are disabled members of the public and they need as much help as possible to recover.”

The Red Devils parachute display team will drop in along with a police helicopter, county air ambulance and an Apache helicopter at the event at Hindlip Hall, near Worcester.

Visitors will be able to see a RAF Sea King, Army helicopters including a Merlin, Griffin, Linx and Gazelle, a display by the bomb disposal squad and a mock car chase involving armed police, the force helicopter and police dogs.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service will be re-creating a crash scene and there will also be a smoke tent.

The show will go ahead in all conditions except low cloud. It will run from noon to 4.30pm and entry costs £20 per car. Tickets are by advanced booking only, although pedestrians will be allowed entry on the day for £5. To book call Michelle Devey-Carvill on 01905 332321.
