ARE the public ignoring pleas to "gel" their hands when visiting Hereford County Hospital?

It seems many people are not co-operating with staff in the important battle to protect patients against serious infections such as MRSA and C.diff.

The hospital says it spends a large sum on containers of gel and runs a continuous clean hands campaign among staff and the public, alerting them to the importance of using the gels dotted around the hospital.

It is difficult to believe isn't it that visitors can be so ignorant as not to do this simple thing to protect people in hospital from this horrific infection. GPs often have to put up with patients who appear not to have had a wash in weeks. Yet despite the best efforts of the health service, it still gets the blame for the infections that some of the general public still insist on bringing into hospitals.
