Time and money

TWO birthday cards were posted in Telford on Wednesday, one for Hereford 66 miles away, the other for Melbourne, 10,000 miles away. There was a first-class stamp on the one for Hereford. Melbourne cost £1.67.

On Saturday the Melbourne card arrived. The following Wednesday I received a card from the post office saying if I wanted the Hereford card I would have to pay £1.06 to collect it. This was explained as 6p because it was just over size for a card and it is classed as a package, and £1 handling charge. Total cost for the Hereford card, 32p for the stamp plus £1.06 to collect - total £1.38.

So working on the Hereford card at a cost of 0.02 a mile, how much should the Melbourne card cost? Answer £209.09 and they say the post office is losing money and having to close post offices. Why? Answers on a post card (with the correct postage) to the £1 handling charge club .

I went to post a letter at the post office in Tupsley and the lady 'tested' it by putting it through the size measuring piece of plastic. It would of gone through but she made no effort to get it through. Then charged me 54p instead of an ordinary stamp.

More whinging from Joe Soap. If you feel you can do better than the post office, why not deliver the parcel yourself (see have far you get with 54 pence worth of petrol).

Joe Soap is complaining about a letter not a parcel. The post office is an organisation set up to deliver mail all over the country. The argument to take one letter by car from one place to another is nonsense.

Sorry it was a letter and not a parcel - and yes using a car to deliver one letter was nonsense. Perhaps Joe Soap might ask whether any of his neighbours want a letter delivering to the same place at the same time and then share the petrol money?

And hello to you too. It's always nice to hear from Simon Cowell. If you are going to London to present the X Factor tonight, would you mind delivering a letter for Joe Soap?
