FIREWORKS – The annual fireworks display is on Saturday, November 1, at Presteigne Football Club. A torchlight procession will leave the Royal Oak at 6.30pm and proceed to the football club where the bonfire will be lit at 7pm followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Primary school children only are welcome to turn up at 6.15pm to carry a torch. Admission to the display is £3 for adults, £1 for senior school children and free for primary school children and below. Afterwards there is a free karaoke in the clubhouse.

OUTING – There is a coach trip to Chester organised by Llangunllo WI on Thursday, October 30. The cost is £11 for adults and £5.50 for school children. To book or for details call 01547 550689 (after 6pm) or 01547 550296.

FUN DAY – There is a family fun day at the Memorial Hall next Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm. The theme will be Hallowe’en. For more details call Angharad Lloyd on 01597 825156.

CHOIR – The Rhayader and District Male Voice Choir will be performing at the Baptist Church on Saturday at 7.30pm. Doors will open at 7pm. Admission is £6.50 and tickets are available from the community support office or shop or by calling Pat or Dennis Morris on 260823.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING – The Manger International Social Club is running its Christmas shopping trip to Cardiff on Saturday, November 22. The cost will be £8 per person. BUILD-A-GUY COMPETITION – The Radnorshire Arms Hotel is running what is hoped to be the annual build-a-guy competition on Saturday afternoon from 12.30pm. The winning guy will be paraded through the streets of Presteigne at the annual fireworks procession on Saturday, November 1. There will be three age groups, under-fives, five to 12s and 12 to 16s. AUTO CLUB – A further meeting has been organised for Monday, November 18, at 8pm at the Royal British Legion Club to finalise the presentation of the surplus funds following the closure of the club. MARKET – The monthly market is on Saturday, November 1, at the Memorial Hall from 9am to 1pm. This month at 11am there will be a free talk from Chloe Ward of Dyfi Valley Seed Savers entitled ‘Save and swap seeds – tips on how to do this’. The usual stalls will be there.

CELEBRATION WEEKEND – St Michael’s Church in Discoed is celebrating the return to St Michael’s after building work by having a celebration weekend. From tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday at Upper House, Discoed, there is an art show. On Friday, Ronald Blythe will give a talk on ‘George Borrow and the Open Road’ at 8pm in the church. Admission is £5. On Saturday, there is a gala candlelit concert also in the church. Admission is £10 and the evening starts at 7.30pm. Then on Sunday morning at 11am there is a service of thanksgiving and celebration. This month there will be a demonstration on knitted and crocheted presents. There is also a workshop on making a stained glass Christmas decoration. The two-hour workshop will cost £5. MUSIC – Winford Wind will be performing at New Radnor Community Hall on Saturday, November 8. Admission is £7 for adults and £3 for under-14s. Please feel free to bring your own drinks. For more details call 350268.

TOWN COUNCIL – The next meeting of Presteigne and Norton Town Council is on Wednesday, November 19, in the Shire Hall at 7.30pm. The public are welcome to attend.

TRANSITION PRESTEIGNE – Mr Paul Hobbs will be giving a talk on ‘Energy, Food and Agriculture: Food security and our depleting oil supply’ at the next meeting of Transition Presteigne on Thursday, November 6, in the Assembly Rooms at 7.30pm. Refreshments will be available. There will be a meeting of the Transition Presteigne Co-ordination Group following the talk.
