WI – Members of Dilwyn WI celebrated their 75th anniversary in style at The Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir last Wednesday. Owner Paul Humpherston gave the ladies a guided tour of the Victorian Gothic Revival hall which overlooks St Mary’s Church and the ruins of the 12th century Cistercian Abbey of the Long Valley.

Dinedor

4:09pm Friday 11th July 2008

HERITAGE GROUP – The group had a really successful inaugural meeting with a fascinating presentation by Maj David Seeney on Dinedor’s secret army of the Second World War. Some of the audience were able to learn more about their fathers’ activities and we were all left wondering where the secret hideouts were. All are invited to our next open meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm in Dinedor Village Hall. We hope to learn more about the history of the area with a presentation by Huw Sherlock and PJ Pikes of Archenfield Archaeology on Bullingham’s deserted medieval village and talk about how we can learn more about our own protected site. Admission is £2. Inquiries to Barbara Ferris on 01432 870696.

Cradley

4:07pm Friday 11th July 2008

BREAKFAST GROUP – Launched in June, the Small Business Breakfast Group met again on July 4 for its second meeting at Sue Lim’s Blue Ginger Gallery, Cradley. Commencing with a continental breakfast at 7.30am, the meeting focussed on the subject of marketing for small local businesses. Chaired by Miles Meager (Mi-frame Picture Framing) the meeting welcomed a mixture of business owners from the original group as well as newcomers to give a good cross-section of local businesses; 13 in total. These included branded clothing (such as printed t-shirts) from Cradley’s Ashvale Business Centre, a design engineer, graphic designer, and a representative from Malvern’s Centre for Well Being. Kate Kavanagh from Whitewells Farm Holiday Cottages, who has a well-established business at Ridgeway Cross, said she found it helpful to be made aware of other businesses in the community, as her customers often ask for recommendations on a variety of local services.

Castle Frome

4:07pm Friday 11th July 2008

ROUNDERS TOURNAMENT – I hope everyone is in training for the third annual rounders’ tournament and barbecue taking place at 6pm on Friday, July 18, at The Moorend, Castle Frome. Bring a team of eight or come along and make up a team on the night. One member of each team must be willing to act as an umpire for other matches. There is no upper age limit and walking sticks can be deposited for collection later! Sports wear varied! There is no entry fee for teams, but if you don’t want to play, just came along and enjoy the fun. A barbecue and light refreshments will be available. Stalls and other activities on the night. For further details, call Louise Manning on 01531 640821.
