Alwyn and Ros Minton celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in style with family and friends on Friday, 21 November 2008 in the Staunton-on-Wye Village Hall, where their wedding reception was held 50 years ago! Food, drink and dance was enjoyed by all. Thank you Alwyn and Ros for sharing your special day!

CHRISTMAS FAYRE – St Mary’s Church will be holding its Christmas fayre in the Simpson Hall on Saturday at 2pm. Father Christmas will drop in to open the festivities and will then be in his Burghill grotto with presents for the children. There will be many stalls selling mince pies, produce and preserves, good glass and china, crafts and more.

PLAY – The Bosbury Players’ production of Oh! What a Lovely War was a great success with every performance sold out. The gala evening on November 11 raised nearly £1,200 for the RNLI.

BREDENBURY PRIMARY SCHOOL – The school would like to express its gratitude to Lady Darnley, Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, for opening the auction of promises at Bredenbury Primary School and to Mrs Barrett and Mrs Keay for organising the event. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the luxury hamper, an item to be auctioned or raffled, gave a donation and attended on the night. Thank you also to everyone who supplied edibles and drinks for the evening and to all the helpers. A big thank-you to Mr and Mrs Massie Piggott for doing such a magnificent job auctioning the items and to Mrs Jones for acting as official photographer. Initial indications show that more than £2,000 was raised for Bredenbury School playground project.

FRIENDS OF ST ANDREW’S 100 CLUB DRAW – We have sold all of the 100 Club tickets. Well done everyone for supporting our Friends of St Andrew’s fundraising effort. The first draw will be on Thursday, January 8, 2009, in the Red Lion Hotel, Bredwardine at 8pm. Alwyn and Ros will perform the draw honours, and 50% of the proceeds will be given in cash prices with the remainder going to St Andrew’s Church.

CHRISTMAS FAIR – The Bromyard History Society Christmas fair is being held on Saturday at 2pm at the Local History Centre, Sherford Street, Bromyard. The grand prize draw will be drawn after the Christmas lights are switched on. The WW1 exhibition will also be open and admission is free.

TRAVELS WITH A CAMERA – This continues at the chapel at 7.30pm next Wednesday with a show entitled ‘Bulgarian Tour’. Admission is £2 including light refreshments.

LORD NELSON INN – The signs are already up on the roadside advising that the pub will become an antiques centre. A change of use has been officially granted by Herefordshire planning which was supported by the parish council.

WORKING PARTY – Tomorrow (Friday) at 10am, a working party will endeavour to tidy parts of the churchyard. Volunteers with gardening equipment will be made very welcome.
