ANNUAL GARDEN FETE – On Sunday, St Michael’s Church, Breinton, is holding its annual garden fete at Breinton Court (by kind invitation of Mr and Mrs P Hands) from 2.15pm to 5pm, with stalls, games, attractions, a raffle, cream teas and ice cream. Admission is £1.50, children under 12 free. Everybody is most welcome – the perfect way to spend a late summer day.

PARISH COUNCIL – Following a change to the advertised venue, the parish council’s September meeting will now be at the village centre at 7.30pm next Tuesday. The first topic on the agenda will be an open meeting to discuss the closure of the Bishops Frome post office and its replacement with an outreach service. Anyone wishing to comment on the proposals is invited to contact the parish clerk.

ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY & GREEN CONVENTION – On Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm each day, there will be a local environment and energy fair and green convention at Newhouse Farm, Almeley. Present will be local ecogroups, talks and stalls and the opportunity to look around the countryside project, two wooden houses with sustainable energy supplies. VILLAGE HALL – Some committee members have been working hard in the village hall over the past few weeks, stripping the wooden floor and re-treating it. The results of their efforts will be on display with the start of the autumn and winter programme of events.

SOUTH HEREFORDSHIRE COTTAGE GARDEN SOCIETY – We start our autumn programme of talks held at Bishopswood Village Hall on Saturday at 2pm. This month the subject is ‘Perfume in the Garden’ by speaker Susan Russell. It has been a busy summer with coach outings to David Austin Roses, Cotswold Wildlife Gardens and Burford Garden Centre. Then, on one of the few warm evenings in August, members enjoyed a party at the home and lovely garden of Mrs Pat Matthews, the membership secretary. VILLAGE BBQ – Despite the grey skies, everyone enjoyed great food, drink and good company at the village barbecue. The promise auction boosted our takings! We managed to net a profit of £600 on the day. Thank you to all who made this possible through organisation, effort, attendance and overall support!
