Charlotte’s leap of faith to say ‘thank you’ for nan’s care

A HEREFORD soldier is to take part in a charity skydive to raise money for the stroke unit which helped her nan.

Charlotte Owen, a corporal for the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARNC), will do the tandem dive at the army camp in South Cerney, Gloucestershire.

The jump will be to say thank you for the “unreal support” that the Hereford Acute Stroke Unit provided for Charlotte’s nan, Brenda Harbour, and her family.

Mrs Harbour, aged 71, from Lyde, suffered a serious stroke in December and was originally admitted to the acute stroke unit.

But, due to a lack of beds at Hereford County Hospital, Mrs Harbour was transferred to Leominster and Ross, back to Hereford and then back to Leominster.

Miss Owen said: “My nan was pushed from pillar to post, but the stroke unit really fought her case and explained that my granddad would find it difficult to travel to visit.

“The care and support they gave was unreal.”

Mrs Harbour is now back home, where she receives 24-hour care.
