HAY-ON-WYE'S clock tower has been silenced while contractors give it a makeover.
Craftsmen from Chester Masonry Ltd, based in Cheshire, are working on the tower until April.
Peter Carnduff, site manager, said: "We have actually put the clock on pause until the work has finished, for the noise and because of the interior work."
Workers are replacing roof slates, repairing lead work on the windows and repointing stone work.
The clock face of the Broad Street landmark will also be replaced during the £60,000 project, which Mr Carnduff says has been interesting residents.
